Which is kinda weird because I worked in retail for a time and I actually liked it except for the odd hours.

One thing came to mind, though, as I was reading this post. You talked about progression in your jobs and experience. Little by little, over the years, you have moved from job to job, role to role until you got to the Estimator jobs. But since getting laid off, you've really focused on estimating. Maybe there's something else for you? Maybe it's time to move onto the next role. (I'm not saying that's retail, but maybe it is.)

Do what you need to do for now, to get by, but don't rule anything out for the future. Maybe your next "career" job will be something different, something better, than estimating.

By the way, I'm totally down with getting coffee with you next time you're in the area. Just let me know.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-513585381754062478.post-84394349532110695632010-07-24T05:04:16.397-07:002010-07-24T05:04:16.397-07:00Last summer I found myself applying for positions ...Last summer I found myself applying for positions at daycare centers out of desperation (and still couldn't get hired). You do what you have to for the short term. I only know 3 people who work in their designated fields. I'm not sure if that makes you feel better...and I get the "snobbiness".Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14596932080900939808noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-513585381754062478.post-591626930364283652010-07-23T18:16:39.744-07:002010-07-23T18:16:39.744-07:00You are so not being a snob. But not a step back, just sideways. Its time to get a new perspective on the world out there.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09569843147080971050noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-513585381754062478.post-68907529499511566472010-07-23T11:15:54.592-07:002010-07-23T11:15:54.592-07:00((((jody))))))
you are neither bitch nor snob. i...((((jody))))))

you are neither bitch nor snob. i don't think there is anything wrong with a retail job - mentally it may help you. i found when i was benched from exercise the more i sat at home the more i didn't feel like doing anything.

sure it'll require a little pride swallowing, but it'll also add something to your resume. maybe not a new skill set, but a determination...an "i'm not a quitter" attitude.

ps - i would have never guessed you were a hillbilly. i only thought we had those around here. as far as getting "above your station" your station is whatever you make it! you may be from humble roots but if anything that just adds to your character. you've worked hard in life. that's something to be proud of!!Brookehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00793109148879037341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-513585381754062478.post-16782805983879287172010-07-23T10:01:46.020-07:002010-07-23T10:01:46.020-07:00Bless you, hunny, because I know EXACTLY how you f...Bless you, hunny, because I know EXACTLY how you feel. I working in restaurants for 10 years working my way from busgirl to shiftleader, bartrainer and assist floor manager. I knew that I didn't want to do that for the rest of my life, but it helped me take care of my family and paid my way (kinda) through college for my degree in education. I had taught in 3 schools in in 6 six years and then wasn't rehired after my position was reassigned. I have subbed for the last 2 and want nothing more than to be in my own classroom again. I will work in restaurants or retail again, if I have to...but dammit, I want to be in the career that I worked my ass off for and really feel at home in.
I hope life hands you a basketfull of awesomeness in jobs, maybe it will take longer than you like, but hopefully not forever!
<3Draea Lael (Rose)https://www.blogger.com/profile/03717268166299796454noreply@blogger.com
